The teenager, along with other members of the public, went to the man’s aid as two men and a woman set about him on the corner of Duke Street and Berry Street on Sunday afternoon.
After assaulting the elderly man, one of the cowardly and despicable trio then slashed Daniel with a drinks can, causing injuries to the side of his face that have since required plastic surgery. He will be scarred for life.
His grandfather, who is so proud of him for standing up to bullies, has told us that Daniel has got a big heart and is someone who was brought up to respect others.
